To School and District Leaders:
Yesterday, Representatives Bowman (NY-16), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), Mondaire Jones (NY-17), Ilhan Omar (MN-5), Ayanna Pressley (MA-7), Rashida Tlaib (MI-13), and Cori Bush (MO-1) sent a letter to President Biden and Secretary of Education Cardona asking that all schools be required to immediately inventory the vulnerabilities and needs of students and families and that the government take steps to support interagency collaboration and strong community partnerships so that students and families are connected to resources and supports in a timely fashion:
"The urgency for needs mapping and interagency collaboration spans several intersecting issues. In addition to the housing crisis that predates the pandemic, the number of children who are facing food insecurity, grieving the loss of a caregiver, and experiencing the isolation of being disconnected from in-person learning for an extended period of time has skyrocketed. Without reliably updated systems in place to identify emerging student needs in real-time, students and their families can suffer in isolation. Without strong networks of support in place, students and families are at risk of losing out on lifesaving resources."
Evictions, immunocompromised status, food insecurity, loss of a primary caregiver, and mental health issues are just a few of the many vulnerabilities that must be tracked in order to inform a strategic response.
The Representatives go on to point out that the actions and investments necessary to put these systems and people into place are allowable under the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) Fund under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021, Public Law 117-2, which Congress passed and President Biden signed into law this past March.

BlueCard is the only solution on the market that can identify, organize, and prioritize thousands of needs and vulnerabilities by inviting parents to answer just 4 questions.  Some other things we bring to the table:
  1. BlueCard is SOC 2, FERPA and HIPAA compliant.  We've also implemented a 24/7 compliance solution and hired expert cybersecurity auditors to independently verify that your data is secure.
  2. Securely refer vulnerable families to external supports.  A few taps is all it takes to refer families that are at risk of eviction, dealing with food insecurities, or struggling with mental health issues to CBOs and other agencies using BlueCard.
  3. A trusted-network approach to supporting families.  When a teacher, after-school program, or CBO with access to your parents' cards has better information than what's on the card, they can ask the parent for permission to securely update their card with a tap... and all of the places supporting that family will get the update.
  4. Track child vaccinations.  Keep track of students who have been vaccinated, have a COVID testing consent on file, and whether anyone in those households is reporting COVID symptoms or exposure in one place.
  5. Special protections for special populations.  BlueCard is immigrant-founded, which is one reason why our service has many protective factors built-in for ELL/MLL households and those with special needs. Our tools make it easier for schools to create new channels of support for these and other special populations.
If you'd like to discuss how our comprehensive set of supports can strengthen the protective factors in your school, read this or check out our video.

We'd welcome the opportunity to be of service.  Tap here to set up a demo or to find some time for us to chat.
